Love. The. Web.

  • At the heart of Accountable Talk is helping students to be fully present when they are in the classroom- body and brain tuned in to the topic at hand.  In this article:  Dealing with Distraction the authors give strategies for mini-lessons to help students become aware of their own ability to pay attention and strategies for helping them focus.  These article was just as useful to me- helping me think through how I deal with distraction!
  • I loved this post on one teacher’s use Heart Maps.  Her use went well beyond just using them for poetry!
  • A while back I posted on the Exquisite Corpse writing project where well know authors such as Kate DiCamillo and Jon Scieszka will contribute to the making of an on line book.  The Exquisite Prompt is a website where students can contribute their own writing on line.  The prompts are differentiated by grade level and winners will be chosen in each category.
  • They don’t call it the Magic Kingdom for nothing.  Check out this article from the NYT on how Disney plans to get kids reading through their Interactive Reading Site. I’d love to hear people’s thoughts about having kids read storybooks on line.  Is it the same or different? Pros?  Cons?

Hope your conferences are going well!
